Northland Health Services Plan, developing for the future

The Northland Health Service Plan project has been established to develop the strategic direction for the funding and delivery of health services in Northland to the year 2031 (ie, a 20-year horizon). The Plan will take a ‘whole of system’ and population health approach with an emphasis on actions to be taken in the next 5 years.

2010/11 Health Targets

Results of the 2010/11 Health Targets are now available.

Published to encourage public scrutiny of the health sector, the six health targets cover shorter waiting times for emergency department treatment, smoking, immunisation, diabetes and cardiovascular services as well as reduced waiting times for critical cancer treatment and elective surgery.

Health targets are essential performance indicators, providing district health boards a focus for action and can be measured as to the impact they are making in improving health for all New Zealanders.

For more information go to the Northland DHB heath targets  web page or visit the Ministry of Health's health target website http://www.moh.govt.nz/healthtargets.

Te Tai Tokerau Alliance for Health

Northland DHB, PHOs and Maori non-government organisations have launched the Te Tai Tokerau Alliance for Health. Its aim is to reduce health inequalities and improve the health and wellbeing of all Northlanders. It is seen as a new way of working to achieve real change in the delivery of healthcare in the region, enabling a move to closer integration of services across hospitals and the community.

An Alliance Leadership Team has been chosen to lead the joint decision making with regard to the implementation of individual Alliance Programmes. To learn more about the team, meeting minutes, regular communication updates and a copy of the Alliance Charter can be found at this link http://www.manaiapho.co.nz/node/643

The first Alliance Programme will target 0-5 year olds within Northland with a focus, but is not limited to immunisation, registration, well child, safety and lifestyle intervention. A second Alliance Programme will target Diabetes. Other Alliance Programmes covering different areas will be identified as work progresses.
